Intensive Outpatient Program

For Teens

Bellatore’s Intensive Outpatient Program for teens is designed to meet the unique needs of boys and girls with eating disorders. Programming is offered after-school, often a challenging time of day for teens.

We provide a small and intimate group setting with no more than eight teens. Groups are led by Bellatore’s leadership team and experienced professionals with extensive training in the treatment of eating disorders.

While participating in the Intensive Outpatient Program, teens use DBT diary cards, an important tool to reinforce and solidify skills.

We have a variety of groups tailored to help teens work through the specific challenges of their eating disorder:

  • Expressive groups provide teens opportunity to dig deep into underlying issues and dynamics central to their recovery process. In addition to traditional “talk therapy,” teens are able to express themselves using art, movement and music therapy, and creative writing.

  • Didactic groups explore topics integral to recovery including body image, nutrition education, family systems, mindfulness, spirituality, and interpersonal relationships.

  • Exposure groups allow teens to practice recovery skills with support from peers and professionals related to food, exercise, and self-regulation.

Meal Support

Families are an essential component to the healing process. We invite parents to join us on Monday's from 3:30-4:30 for our Nutrition Education and Meal Planning session, as well as on Thursday's from 3:30-4:30 for our Multifamily Group. Each group allows families and clients to learn from each other how to support their loved one, celebrate recent successes, and develop skills to overcome barriers; in addition to gaining the much needed support from other families facing similar struggles.

Family Support

A supported meal is provided each night of programming. Teens are asked to bring their meal two nights per week. The third meal is provided by a local restaurant, and included in our program cost.
